Job Description
Position Summary
The role of the Instructional Coach is to build teacher capacity and effective instructional practices in order to increase student outcomes. Coaches will work 190 contract days. Assigned duties will be scheduled either before or after school (not during instructional hours). Coaches can help with summative state testing *.
Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Partner with teachers in student-centered coaching cycles to design instruction that is based on specific goals for student learning.
- Facilitate reflective conversations with teachers using student work and assessment data to analyze progress and to inform instructional decisions.
- Support teachers in implementing differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students.
- Identify appropriate learning material resources and tools available within the school and district that help teachers build instructional capacity.
- Meet weekly with building administrators to communicate about needs and next steps.
- Participate in and support school Collaborative Team Meetings (CTMs).
- Assist teachers in understanding and implementing curriculum standards.
- Provide guidance on curriculum development, lesson planning, instructional strategies, and best practices.
- Provide professional learning/development opportunities to support effective teaching practices.
- Foster a culture of collaboration among teachers and other staff members.
- Share innovative approaches and engagement strategies to make learning more interactive and meaningful.
- Serve on the RTI-A committee and assist with data disaggregation and student academic support.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Maintain and enhance professional knowledge of current research and trends for effective teaching and learning by attending conferences, in person and virtual, and reading professional books and articles.
- Attend Collaborative Coach Meetings as scheduled for the purpose of professional growth and collaboration.
- Enhance professional scope and instructional knowledge by visiting classrooms at other schools.
- Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- At least 3 years of successful experience in the classroom teaching ELA
- Knowledge of appropriate reading intervention strategies for secondary students
- Knowledge and understanding of the Science of Reading
- Experience coaching secondary teachers
- Experience providing professional development
Reports to Secondary Director of ELA
- The Secondary Director of ELA will evaluate the instructional coach. Feedback from building administrators is also essential for successful program implementation so that our students are able to learn at high levels and reach their full potential.
