Part-Time Custodial Cafeteria Helper Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

 

Perform cleaning tasks including but not limited to those outlined below. This position is 4 hours per day. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Assist day custodian with cafeteria cleaning. This duty is performed daily.
  2. Monitoring the condition of the facility and maintaining cleanliness by sweeping floors and wiping tables, chairs, and other surfaces. This duty is performed daily
  3. Setting up tables and cleaning them after each meal is served. This duty is performed daily
  4. Maintain a flexible schedule for special school functions. This duty is performed daily
  5. Take out trash. This duty is performed daily

 

Other duties may include:

  1. Clean all restrooms as needed: Clean stools, urinals, lavatories, and chrome. Refill paper towels, tissue, and soap dispensers. Wash walls, stalls, and doors daily and graffiti removal.This duty is performed daily.
  2. Clean all classrooms of teachers or staff work areas as needed. Vacuum carpet areas and rugs as needed. Empty all trash cans and pencil sharpeners as needed.   
  3. Hallways: Use an auto scrubber as needed and spray buff weekly. Mop every night where needed. Dust hallway, cabinets, windows ledges, etc., weekly. Clean water fountains. Empty trash in hallway trash cans. Hallway carpet; vacuum nightly and remove spots nightly. This duty is performed daily.
  4. Assist when needed doing things like Help to keep custodial closets, trashcans, and equipment clean. Moving furniture (with supervisors’ approval). Extra cleaning. Assist office staff. Change out ceiling tiles and light bulbs as needed. This duty is performed daily.
  5. Maintain a flexible schedule for special school functions. This duty is performed daily.
  6. Change ceiling tiles as needed
  7. Clean up vomit and blood spills using an appropriate bloodborne clean-up system. This duty is performed daily.
  8. Extract carpets with carpet machines. As needed
  9. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years of high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work, referring all questionable cases to the supervisor.

PLANNING

Limited responsibility concerning specific assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work operations.

DECISION MAKING

Performs work operations which permit infrequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance and which would only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved to a slight degree.

MENTAL DEMAND

Light mental demand. Operations requiring intermittent directed thinking to carry out predetermined procedure or sequence of operations of limited variability. Operations requiring intermittent attention to control machines or manual motions.
